Creighton’s Davion Mintz withdraws from NBA Draft

In a tweet Wednesday, Creighton junior Davion Mintz announced he will withdraw from the upcoming NBA draft:

After testing the NBA draft process, talking with my family, coaches and consistent prayer, I have decided that I will be returning to school for my senior season & complete my degree. Enjoyed my time during the draft process, developing my game and showing my upside. 1 is back

In a separate press release, Creighton announced the news, but specified Mintz would be back with the Jays.

Maybe I’m reading too much into this (and because I’ve seen it happen before with Andrew White at Nebraska), but I find it interesting Mintz doesn’t specify he’ll be back with the Jays. No inside information here, just an observation.

From a practical perspective, Mintz is making a good decision. He has never settled in as a primary ball handler, and has been an inconsistent scorer. A big senior campaign could help improve his pro potential immensely. Here’s wishing him the best.
