Big Ten will resume football this fall as the conference has announced new medical data and stringent testing program and medical protocols. Football is scheduled to begin on October 23rd and 24th. Here is the full statement from the conference.

A statement from UNL chancellor Ronnie Green and Athletic Director Bill Moos:

“We are very pleased with the decision by the Big Ten to play football this fall after carefully considering the extensive work by the Medical Committee.

The safety protocols established by the conference are the most stringent in the country, and will help protect our student-athletes, staff and coaches. At Nebraska, we have worked hard since last spring to ensure the safety of our Husker family and are confident of the steps we’ve taken. We look forward to working with the Big Ten protocols and will be ready to play on October 24.

This is a big day for our student-athletes, coaches, our city, our state and all of Husker Nation. We look forward to seeing Coach Frost and our Huskers take the field – Go Big Red!”

The Big Ten officially pulled the plug on fall sports, including football in hopes to play in the spring. No further details on any spring plans were made just yet. This is a developing story.

Here is the conferences full statement.

Statement by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green, University of Nebraska System President Ted Carter, Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos and Nebraska Head Football Coach Scott Frost

“We are very disappointed in the decision by the Big Ten Conference to postpone the fall football season, as we have been and continue to be ready to play.

Safety comes first. Based on the conversations with our medical experts, we continue to strongly believe the absolute safest place for our student athletes is within the rigorous safety protocols, testing procedures, and the structure and support provided by Husker Athletics.

We will continue to consult with medical experts and evaluate the situation as it emerges. We hope it may be possible for our student athletes to have the opportunity to compete.”
